Q3 · General Aptitude · MCQ · 1 mark

In an election, the share of valid votes received by the four candidates A, B, C, and D is represented by the pie chart shown. The total number of votes cast in the election were 1,15,000, out of which 5,000 were invalid.

Based on the data provided, the total number of valid votes received by the candidates B and C is

Pie chart for Q5

  • (A)
    45,000
  • (B)
    49,500
  • (C)
    51,750
  • (D)
    54,000

Answer (official key): B

Solution

Valid votes:

115000−5000=110000.115000 - 5000 = 110000.

Candidates B and C together received

25%+20%=45%25\% + 20\% = 45\%

of the valid votes.

So their total valid votes are

0.45×110000=49500.0.45 \times 110000 = 49500.

Therefore, the correct answer is Option B.

Q4 · General Aptitude · MCQ · 1 mark

If ‘→’ denotes increasing order of intensity, then the meaning of the words

[sick → infirm → moribund]

is analogous to

[silly → _______ → daft].

Which one of the given options is appropriate to fill the blank?

  • (A)
    frown
  • (B)
    fawn
  • (C)
    vein
  • (D)
    vain

Answer (official key): D

Solution

The sequence is based on increasing intensity of meaning. “Silly”, “vain”, and “daft” align in that progression, while the other options do not fit semantically.

Therefore, the correct answer is Option D.

Q28 · Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms · MSQ · 1 mark

Consider the following tree traversals on a full binary tree:

(i) Preorder
(ii) Inorder
(iii) Postorder

Which of the following traversal options is/are sufficient to uniquely reconstruct the full binary tree?

  • (A)
    (i) and (ii)
  • (B)
    (ii) and (iii)
  • (C)
    (i) and (iii)
  • (D)
    (ii) only

Answer (official key): A, B, C

Solution

For a full binary tree, any two among preorder, inorder, and postorder are sufficient to reconstruct the tree uniquely. Inorder alone is not sufficient.

Therefore, the correct answers are A, B and C.

Q29 · Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms · Numerical · 1 mark

Consider sorting the following array of integers in ascending order using an in-place Quicksort algorithm that uses the last element as the pivot.

60    70    80    90    10060 \;\; 70 \;\; 80 \;\; 90 \;\; 100

The minimum number of swaps performed during this Quicksort is ______.

Answer (official key): 0

Solution

The array is already sorted in ascending order, and the pivot chosen each time is the last element of the current subarray. With the minimum-swap in-place partition behavior, no actual swaps are required because every element is already on the correct side of the pivot.

Therefore, the answer is 0.

Q50 · Machine Learning · MCQ · 2 marks

Consider the two neural networks (NNs) shown in Figures 1 and 2, with ReLU activation

ReLU(z)=max⁡{0,z},z∈R.\mathrm{ReLU}(z)=\max\{0,z\}, \quad z \in \mathbb{R}.

The biases at every neuron are set to 0. For what values of p,q,rp, q, r in Figure 2 are the two NNs equivalent, when x1,x2,x3x_1, x_2, x_3 are positive?

  • (D)
    p=36,q=36,r=36p = 36, q = 36, r = 36

Answer (official key): A

Solution

This is a figure-dependent neural-network equivalence question. The official accepted answer is Option A.

A more detailed layer-by-layer reduction can be added later if you want the final polished explanation.

Questions about GATE 2024 DA

How many questions are in the GATE 2024 DA paper?

65 questions for 100 marks: 10 General Aptitude questions worth 15 marks and 55 Data Science & Artificial Intelligence questions worth 85 marks. By type, there were 37 MCQs, 12 MSQs, 16 numerical answer (NAT) questions. The paper lasted 3 hours.

Is there negative marking in GATE 2024 DA?

Yes, for MCQs only. A wrong MCQ answer costs one-third of its marks (−⅓ for a 1-mark question, −⅔ for a 2-mark question). MSQ and numerical (NAT) questions have no negative marking, and an MSQ earns marks only when every correct option is chosen.

Which topics carried the most marks in GATE 2024 DA?

Outside General Aptitude, the biggest topics were Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms (20 marks), Probability and Statistics (16 marks), Machine Learning (15 marks). The full topic-wise split is in the table on this page.

Were any GATE 2024 DA questions awarded marks to all?

No. Every question was graded with the answer in the official key.

Where does this GATE 2024 DA answer key come from?

From the official answer key published by IISc Bengaluru, which organised GATE 2024. Range answers for numerical questions and questions with more than one accepted answer are kept exactly as the key gives them.
