Q7 · General Aptitude · MCQ · 2 marks

Weight of a person can be expressed as a function of their age. The function usually varies from person to person. Suppose this function is identical for two brothers, and it monotonically increases till the age of 50 years and then it monotonically decreases. Let a1a_1 and a2a_2 (in years) denote the ages of the brothers and a1<a2a_1 < a_2.

Which one of the following statements is correct about their age on the day when they attain the same weight?

  • (A)
    a1<a2<50a_1 < a_2 < 50
  • (B)
    a1<50<a2a_1 < 50 < a_2
  • (C)
    50<a1<a250 < a_1 < a_2
  • (D)
    Either a1=50a_1 = 50 or a2=50a_2 = 50

Answer (official key): B

Solution

Since the function increases up to age 50 and decreases after age 50, the same weight at two different ages can happen only if one age lies before 50 and the other lies after 50.

Therefore, the correct relation is a1<50<a2a_1 < 50 < a_2, so the correct answer is Option B.

Q8 · General Aptitude · MCQ · 2 marks

A regular dodecagon (12-sided regular polygon) is inscribed in a circle of radius rr cm as shown in the figure. The side of the dodecagon is dd cm. All the triangles (numbered 1 to 12) in the figure are used to form squares of side rr cm and each numbered triangle is used only once to form a square.

The number of squares that can be formed and the number of triangles required to form each square, respectively, are:

Note: The figure shown is representative.

Figure for GATE 2025 DA question 8 (Quantitative Aptitude)

  • (A)
    3; 4
  • (B)
    4; 3
  • (C)
    3; 3
  • (D)
    3; 2

Answer (official key): A

Solution

The 12 central triangles are congruent. Each triangle has area

12r2sin⁡30∘=14r2.\frac{1}{2}r^2\sin 30^\circ = \frac{1}{4}r^2.

A square of side rr has area r2r^2, so each square requires

r2r2/4=4\frac{r^2}{r^2/4} = 4

triangles.

Since there are 12 such triangles in total, the number of squares formed is

12/4=3.12/4 = 3.

Therefore, the correct answer is Option A.

Q21 · Linear Algebra · MSQ · 1 mark

Which of the following statements is/are correct?

  • (A)
Rn\mathbb{R}^n has a unique set of orthonormal basis vectors
  • (B)
Rn\mathbb{R}^n does not have a unique set of orthonormal basis vectors
  • (C)
Linearly independent vectors in Rn\mathbb{R}^n are orthonormal
  • (D)
Orthonormal vectors in Rn\mathbb{R}^n are linearly independent

Answer (official key): B, D

Solution

There are infinitely many orthonormal bases in Rn\mathbb{R}^n, so uniqueness is false. Also, orthonormal vectors are always linearly independent, but linearly independent vectors need not be orthonormal. Therefore, the correct answers are B and D.

Q31 · Database Management and Warehousing · Numerical · 1 mark

On a relation named Loan of a bank:

loan_numberbranch_nameamount
L11Banjara Hills90000
L14Kondapur50000
L15SR Nagar40000
L22SR Nagar25000
L23Balanagar80000
L25Kondapur70000
L19SR Nagar65000

the following SQL query is executed.

SELECT L1.loan_number
FROM Loan L1
WHERE L1.amount > (
  SELECT MAX(L2.amount)
  FROM Loan L2
  WHERE L2.branch_name = 'SR Nagar'
);

The number of rows returned by the query is __________.

(Answer in integer)

Answer (official key): 3

Solution

First find the maximum loan amount for the branch SR Nagar.

From the table, the SR Nagar amounts are:

  • 40000
  • 25000
  • 65000

So the maximum is 65000.

Now count all rows in Loan with amount greater than 65000:

  • 90000
  • 80000
  • 70000

That gives 3 rows.

Therefore, the answer is 3.

Consider game trees Tree-1 and Tree-2 as shown. The first level is a MAX agent and the second level is a MIN agent. The value in the square node is the output of the utility function.

For what ranges of xx and yy, the right child of node B and the right child of node E will be pruned by alpha-beta pruning algorithm?

    x∈[1,∞)x \in [1,\infty) and y∈(−∞,2]y \in (-\infty,2]
  • (B)
    x∈(−∞,2]x \in (-\infty,2] and y∈(−∞,5]y \in (-\infty,5]
  • (C)
    x∈(−∞,2]x \in (-\infty,2] and y∈[2,∞)y \in [2,\infty)
  • (D)
    x∈[1,∞)x \in [1,\infty) and y∈(−∞,5]y \in (-\infty,5]

Answer (official key): C

Solution

This is a figure-dependent alpha-beta pruning question. The official accepted answer is Option C. A step-by-step pruning trace can be added later if you want the final polished explanation.
