What this means for your preparation
Keep using past papers
Across all 71 papers, 99.3% of the marks are on topics that are still listed. Where a question is on a dropped topic, our paper pages mark it, so you can skip it or read it quickly.
CS loses a topic that was asked often
Secondary storage (disk) questions appeared in 5 CS papers, 3 of them since 2024. The 2027 syllabus drops it, along with ARP, DHCP, UDP and the mail protocols. That is 15 past CS questions in all. Disk scheduling is still listed under CPU and I/O scheduling, so those questions stay relevant.
New topics need more than PYQs
Past papers were set on the old syllabus, so a topic that is new in 2027, such as construction management in CE or PLCs and pneumatic actuators in ME, may have few or no past questions. Plan textbook time for the new topics.

Take the Reality CheckQuestions students ask
Which GATE papers changed their syllabus for 2027?
Of the seven papers covered here, CS, EC, ME, CE and AE have a revised syllabus for GATE 2027. DA and EE are unchanged. The source is the GATE 2027 information brochure (IIT Madras), compared line by line with the official GATE 2026 syllabus.
Are GATE previous year papers still useful after the 2027 syllabus change?
Yes. We checked all 4,615 questions in the 71 official papers Lemyte holds. Only 33 of them, worth 48 of 7,100 marks (0.7%), test a topic the 2027 syllabus no longer lists. Every other question is still on the syllabus.
Can a topic that is no longer listed still be asked in GATE 2027?
The brochure only lists what is in the syllabus; it does not promise what will be left out. A concept that is no longer named can still turn up inside a broader topic that is listed. Give removed topics less time, but don't treat the list as a guarantee.
Are there old questions for the new GATE 2027 topics?
Past papers were set on the old syllabus, so a topic that is new in 2027 may have few or no past questions, unless it was asked before under broader wording. Use a textbook or class notes for the new topics as well as PYQs.
