Official qualifying marks
GATE cutoff 2026 and 2025
The GATE 2026 qualifying marks for the General category, out of 100: Computer Science & IT 30, Civil 28.7, Electrical 27.7, Data Science & AI 26.4, Electronics & Communication 26.4, Mechanical 25.2, Aerospace 25. Every number below is from the organising institute's own cut-off page.
Qualifying marks are not admission cut-offs. They decide who gets a valid GATE score. IITs, NITs and PSUs set their own, usually much higher, cut-offs on GATE score or rank.

Questions
GATE cutoff: common questions
What is the GATE 2026 cutoff for each paper?
For the General category, out of 100 marks: Computer Science & IT 30, Civil 28.7, Electrical 27.7, Data Science & AI 26.4, Electronics & Communication 26.4, Mechanical 25.2, Aerospace 25. OBC-NCL/EWS and SC/ST/PwD candidates have lower qualifying marks; the table on this page gives all three for every paper. Source: IIT Guwahati's official cut-off page.
Is the GATE qualifying mark the same as the IIT or PSU cutoff?
No. The qualifying mark only decides who receives a valid GATE score. IITs, NITs and PSUs then set their own admission or shortlisting cut-offs, based on GATE score or rank, and these are usually much higher. This page lists only the official qualifying marks.
How are the OBC, EWS, SC, ST and PwD qualifying marks worked out?
From the General qualifying mark: OBC-NCL and EWS candidates need 90% of it, and SC, ST and PwD candidates need two-thirds of it. For example, the GATE 2026 Computer Science qualifying marks were 30, 27 and 20.
Is the cutoff out of 100 marks or the GATE score?
Out of 100 marks: the actual marks scored in the paper, after negative marking. The GATE score (out of 1000) is calculated separately and is what most admissions and PSUs use.
Will the GATE 2027 cutoff be the same?
No one can say in advance: the organising institute sets it after the exam, from how candidates performed. Between 2025 and 2026 the General qualifying mark moved by up to 10.6 marks in a single paper (Mechanical Engineering).
